rereading these messages By That old Sue

I have read these posts again and they remind me of a situation that I have been in. I work in the town where there are several people that I knew in high school. I will see these people, women, and have gone out of my | way to say "Hi, how's it going?" etc. I will get a quick "O.K." and then the brush off. One lady, in particular, I considered a good friend in high school. Well, after talking to my guidance counselor friend who had the same thing happen to her, I just decided not to waste my time any more. This is my theory of nicety: Give people a second chance. Speak and be friendly at least TWO | | times. If they still give you the snub -- they are not worth the trouble. Just be done with them. Don't speak. Walk on by and do your own thing. The ball is in their court then.I think some people are so focused or self-absorbed they just don't realize how they appear. Don't read anything into them. If you could listen inside their head you would probably hear: "Did the peroxide directions say leave it on for 20 minutes or 20 seconds? What's that burning sensation?..." "Was Jimmy supposed to ride home with that strange man? Was that why he was screaming?" "Man, that new teacher is one hot momma, here she comes now! Look down!" "I just know I saw that new teacher on America's Most Wanted. What's the number 1-800-Crime-01?" "Did I leave the oven on?..." "Was I supposed to take one Contact or two?..." "Where is Kathy Lee when you need her?" Honestly, I woudn't even break a sweat over it. Before you know it you will have a buddy.
