borrowed books

Clip to ScrapBook
In my class we use book bags. Each child has a large zip lock bag with their name on it. In the bag I put a letter to the parents explaining the program and explaining how to 'read' these books with thier children as well
as a reading log for the child to print the name of the book on once they have read it. They then choose an emergent reader from our bin to put in their bag to take home. Once they return the book they return it to the bin and choose another one. After 10 books they receive a 'treat' from me. We also do a program I call "I Can Read". Any poems or chart stories we do in class are
put into a duotang at the end of the week and the duotangs go home for the weekend. The children read these to their parents and then return the duotangs the next week to add in the next poems. I also include a cover page for parents explaining the program and explaining the stages of reading a young child moves through. Both programs have worked well for the 4 years I have been using them.
