getting mad
By Debra

Clip to ScrapBook
Dear "Ugh",
Yes, venting is important. We need to be heard, validated, supported, and guided. This is the beginning of my fourth year of teaching and I experienced similar, but not the same, feelings of isolation from
a staff of experienced teachers the first few years. I couldn't find a single soul to really relate well to. Don't get me wrong. There were many nice people but I couldn't get what I needed at the time from anyone. I was different than I think you are, though. I was afraid to say too much because I sensed that I would not be well received and so I suffered in silence. Neither your
way nor mine is productive but there aren't always easy answers. I must say now that I have received my tenure I am much more relaxed. Not only from a job security standpoint but from the standpoint of feeling more self-confident about my ability. You are lucky to have found this site at this time - I wish it was around when I really needed it. Use it! Also, try to do as the other responder, Lisa, said: "step back and take a look at yourself". See what you can do to change your own reaction. In this way you are taking control of the situation rather than being controlled by it. Don't be so hard on yourself. Work on it daily but only to the point that you are working it and "its" not working you. Time should also help you get past this. Good luck.
