departmentalization

We are considering leaving departmentalization for self-contained classrooms. The reason, the self-contained classes performed better than the departmentalized classes on value-added scores and behavior problems (fights, harassment, etc,)occurs more when classes change. My friend teaches departmentalized and she likes it because it is so much easier -- fewer lessons to plan, the problem kids are not with her all day. I believe there are pros and cons to it. However, we are definately moving away from it into multiage, looping and integrated subjects.
