Thoughts...

Clip to ScrapBook
First of all, just how poor is her spelling? There are kids who just struggle with spelling and will grow up to be poor spellers as adults. I have a couple students who are low readers and, consequently, low spellers.

If, however, you see major problems, and see a pattern in her errors, there is something more going on. She could have problems with dyslexia or dysgraphia. If I were you, I would take a few samples of her tests or other writing with errors and talk to either your reading specialist or someone in special ed. They may want to evaluate her further, or at least will have strategies and

maybe materials that will help. In the meantime, I would also suggest narrowing down her spelling list, and making sure her words, if they don't already, have patterns or rules.
