Thank you so much for your advice. I never really thought about not grading it. How do you know if the kids are getting the idea or not? Usually the reason I grade it is to see if the kids are making sense of the concepts. It is ok to do that with a short quiz in class? How do the grades usually come out? Do any kids struggle because of the low number of actual grades?

I know that I sound very naive, and I am! With it being my first year, I really don't want any of the kids to suffer from my inexperience, but I don't want to kill myself trying to do it all, either.

And...YES!! I count myself very blessed to be able to plan only for math. It does make a big difference in my time spent planning. I do teach spelling, but only to my homeroom.
