1 - Log. Students will use my example as a model for keeping track of books they read (even those they don't finish). 2 - Genre. Here students will take notes describing each of the genre they are required to read. 3 - Format. Students will keep track of the different ways authors use to share a story (diary, poetry, script, 1st person perspective, 3rd person perspective, etc.) 4 - Quotes. Students will collect memorable things characters in specific books said. They may also collect quotes that have to do with reading. 5 - Possibilities. Here students will list books they may be interested in reading. They might hear about a certain book during "Book Commercials" or just casual conversation with classmates, myself, or anyone! 6 - Letters. Once a week, each student will write a friendly letter to me in this notebook. They will give me their reactions to the book they are currently reading. These notebooks will be present when we conference about their reading. They will be a springboard for our conversation. I will highlight the genre of completed books (a different color for each genre). In that way it will be easier to keep count of requirements met. Twice a week, I will allot ten minutes for Book Commercials. Students will give a brief 2 minute sell for a book they have read. Each student must do one per quarter. Also once per quarter, each student will write a book review that will be posted on our Classroom Reading Blog at my website. I appreciate your comments. I'm excited about giving this a try. :)
