tough class
By Amy L.

Clip to ScrapBook
Hi... and smile, you made it through another day. I think we've all been there and felt that! My first year was really tough; in a gr. level I didn't want and didn't have materials, etc. The best thing that happened to me
was having a mentor who was great. It helped me find a sense of humor, pull together a good plan, and even start to enjoy the kids (8th gr, departmentalized). I made it through, had some good relationships with the kids and got to a better level the next year. So.. my advice is to get a mentoring teacher, try to find something positive about the kids ,and for awhile, work on climate. Try
to find out what they're getting from their negatives and work on activities that fill the same need. I know that sounds tough. If you can get the climate manageable for you and your students, learning will follow. Hang in there! Also.. don't forget to find time to do things that are good for yoruself.
