Sounds familiar!!

Are you sure you teach 4th grade, because this story sounds like my 7th period!!! I have older kids, so I think I can treat them a little differently. I the numbers 54321 on the board. When someone in the class talks out,| when the class gets out of control (they have a hard time with transitions) ect. They get a number marked off. If I get to one they have to write out of the book. I hate this!!! It's a waste of time!!! I am also trying to find a different way to deal with this problem. We even talked about what causes them to lose a number, and I have even said if they can make it through without | |
a number being marked off they can earn 5minutes of free time at the end of the period. Does this work? NO! I think some students feed off the energy in the room. I am trying to find a way to lower it!!! I am sure there is someone who might have suggestions for us!!!
