I'd be careful if I were you videotaping students. After all, it's not just their behavior that's being captured for posterity, but yours too! You never know what can come back and bite you later on. It's entirely possible that anything done on your part will be held against you if you take any action against a student, such as detention or suspension. Who would you want to show the tape to? Administration? Parents (always very tricky)? You may end up defending yourself for something perfectly legitimate. So use this technique with caution. If you think it may help, try just saying that you are videotaping but never put an actual tape in, see if they fall for it. Good Luck!
