It just depends By Split personality

I am chiming in on this from two perspectives...First as a new teacher and second as one from the "older" generation. I recently graduated and turned 40...I like to think and my children usually reinforce that I dress well...Only| once has my 9 year-old expressed concern over what I was wearing and that was a day I planned to wear jeans as part of a "school spirit" day...His concern was that I rarely wear jeans to school...I do have my ears triple pierced, but I keep my earrings simple...My school district does not have a dress code, but professional and dress casual have become the norm. Shorts are even | | permissable on dress down days in the spring and fall...common sense is the key...If a parent walks in the door he/she should be able to tell the teacher from the students or a volunteer...Tatoos for me are another issue...whether it is a form of self expression or not...a tatoo is permanent and 10 years down the road you still have the tatoo that was so important to express your individality all those years ago and now you have changed...the tatoo remains the same...Unfortunately they come with pre-conceived notions...some of which I have...I guess I simply don't understand the necessity...Ironically if someone in authority told any of us that we HAD to get a tatoo we would find that rule infringed on our personal freedoms and refuse... I do not however understand the need to express individuality through and eyebrow pierce or a tongue piercing, not to mention the piercing of other facial tissue...this totally eludes me..I still think common sense is the best route...And children are easily distracted at every turn...keeping things underwraps is the better part of discretion.
