1st graders not behaving
By Miss E

Clip to ScrapBook
well first of all- the now-first graders were a horrific year of students for all teachers I have known. They were my kindergarten last year and their behavior problems and lack of maturity was astounding. We are figuring
its just THAT YEAR of kids! But, I use sporadic awards and I also use cues. I say "put your listening ears on- I am looking for the best listener" before EVERY story. Sometimes the best listener gets recognized with a sticker or something- sometimes they don't- the kids never know and this keeps them on their toes. The other thing I do in the beginning of the year is STOP READING every
time a child talks, moves, or disrupts the story. Its annoying but if you do it for a few weeks- it will work. The kids will look around to see why I stopped and pay attention. Good luck!
