Clip to ScrapBook
Ok I am a college student, but I work in a child development center. We had a lot of problems keeping the children seated during reading time. So we started a process, that involved more than just sitting and reading.
We would have the kids march around the room to release any extra enrgy. Then we would have them sit on their own carpet squares, that they themselves designed. (We had them draw on a piece of thick paper and then we laminiated it and attached it to the carpent square. That gave them more ownership. We also do a marble activity similar to that of the buttons. We have arranged the carpet
squares into groups and students get marbles for being ready, quiet, ect. and lost marbles for moving around, talking ect. At the end of the week/month, Small awards were given to the groups that had the most marbles. We often gave little sweedish fish or a new pencil with cool characters. Something that also helped was involving the kids in reading the book. We would choose a word and everytime the teacher stopped reading all the kids would have to say the word.
I hope this helps!!
