    I totally agree. Do not take it personally. I had a parent that was the same way. Come to find out, I intimidated her. (If she only knew that she had the same power over me) It wasn't me in particular, just the fact that I was a teacher.
    Could it also be cultural? It is his way of showing respect? I know this sounds strange, but it could be another possibility. You could be seen as an authority figure, even over him. Just a thought.
