Regardilng ABusy T's idea about a student identifying which of multiple spellings of the same word is correct, some students will stumble at this because faced with so many possibilities, unless the errors are flagrantly wrong, will think all are worng or all are correct.
You might want to try - say three different words from the spelling list - only one of which is incorrectly spelled. This is more realistic anyway because words appear in sentences usually, among other words. My experience is that some students do better this way.
