grading math
By Carolyn

Clip to ScrapBook
I don't assign a grade to homework. I do check off, at the beginning of math class, who does not have it finished, however, so that I can report it to parents. Students who regularly complete their homework, and who sit
on the edge of a grade, are pushed up a grade. I don't do this for those who do not bring in homework! I give only weekly quizzes on skills each Friday. I grade these and hand back on Wednesdays. If any student does not achieve at least an 80% on a quiz, I retest him/her the following Friday during the quiz time. I also, before that time, encourage him/her to find the mistakes on the
test.

You are lucky if you only teach math. I am sure that cuts down on the amount of planning for you. I have to teach spelling, writing, reading, social studies, health, and science. It's a challenge trying to keep up with all of that!
