Native American Legends
By Carolyn

Clip to ScrapBook
I teach fifth grade, also. My students love writing pictograph stories. I have a list of Native American pictographs for things from nature, such as sun, moon, river, bear, deer, etc. I have my students write a story about an Indian child. When they get to the point where they need to write the word "bear," they substitute the symbol for bear. They enjoy doing this. I usually show them a sample of my story first, so that they will know what to do.
