Hurt feelings
By Kelly

Clip to ScrapBook
I think it is important to let the children know that sometimes the things they say can hurt your feelings. Especially at the elementary level, children may not realize that making such comments can be hurtful. As educators,
we teach the kids not only academic material, but how to behave in a socially appropriate manner as well. Just tell the child that what they said is not a nice thing to say to someone else, and that it hurts your feelings. Sometimes children do not think that adults, particularly teachers, have feelings just like they do. Be honest and tell them how you feel. It might teach them
that it is not appropriate to make such comments, and save another child from being hurt. It might also help them develop empathy for others. Character education does not only come from the home (and in many cases it just does not), and we must educate the whole child.
