For boycotting bring up various events through out history where people boycotted companies and products. Such as the boycott of British made and shipped goods during the Rev. War, German and Japanese products during WWII, and boycotts of products from Communist countries. You could also look in your area or talk to people you know, sometimes when a person get bad service from a store they "boycott" that place and encourage others to do so. Since it's econ. lesson you could examine the effects of boycotting on the co., the employees, and generally the entire nation that is boycotted. For petitions | | you could examine how some communities got water, cable, and other things in their area by making up a petition. You could also examine the petition sent to King George III demanding representation in Parliament before the Rev. War. Hope these ideas help.
