One idea is to get those individual carpet square samples from a carpet store. Then each child has their "own" space. They have to sit on their carpet. I know a kindergarten teacher who purchased individual alphabet squares, but you can probably get the carpet samples for free if you tell them you are a teacher and what you plan to use them for.
