journal writing
By avril landes

Clip to ScrapBook
Hi!
This is Avril, the teacher who left the original journal writing message. Thank you all for your helpful replies. After reading the replies I have a few more questions: A few teachers suggested transcribing the childrens
words at the bottom of the page when they are done doing whatever writing they are capable of at their level. If the idea is to encourage them to write without the fear of a wrong or a right way of spelling etc., doesn't transcribing send the opposite message? What about a child who only wants to draw and insists that he can't write? Is the answer then to let him dictate while
I write (some turn into long sagas), or do what a few of you suggested which is writing a set topic on the board or topic related words and making it a rule that they at least have to copy those words down in their journals? Up until now my class has done pretty well without a topic but the dictating is very time consuming and intense.
Thanks for letting me ramble on!
Avril
