I also get my students ready about 15-20 min. before dismissal. We play a game called quiet mouse. One student walks around carrying a special quiet mouse object ( this could be a special stuffed animal, decorated ruler, etc.)searching for the quiet mouse while the other students are sitting quietly waiting to be picked. This seems to work. I also turn down the lights.
