more on placement tests

Clip to ScrapBook
Reading placement tests are designed by a reading series publisher to help you appropriately place your students in the correct level of their reading series. This would only be advantageous to you if you use a particular
series and that placement test. You are probably better off admininstering a DRS to determine your students instructional, independent, and frustrational reading levels. They come with a prompt/teacher guide and are fairly easy to adminster and score. There are a number of reading assessments available--from a BRI (Basic Reading Inventory) to the DRS (Diagnostic Reading Scale). There is
even something called a QRI, although I am not sure what the acronym stands for or how it differs from the other two (perhaps someone else knows). Your best bet would be to speak to your reading department chairperson or remedial reading or title I teacher and ask how you can gain access to these materials. They can show you how to use them and administer them to your students.
