Chemical Reactions By John Vose

Chemical reactions involve links between atoms and molecules in the chemicals involved. Energy is always involved in either making or breaking those bonds. Some reactions release energy as bonds are formed or broken. | This was the case with the calcium chloride reaction. This kind of reaction is called "exothermic" because energy is released in the form of heat. In other reactions, energy is required to form or break bonds. In these reactions the energy required is usually taken from the environment in the form of heat energy and the reacting chemicals become cooler because heat energy is being used | | to make the reaction occur. This kind of reaction is called "endothermic".You should be able to find more information by looking up those two terms in a dictionary or encyclopedia. Hope this helps you. John
