skipping a grade

Clip to ScrapBook
Hi
I agree with the other posts don't meet with the mom alone...
Here is some food for thought for the mom.
No one is questioning if your daughter is smart or capable of doing above grade level work. She is a bright
girl. Often times when a child skips a grade and reaches middle school all kinds of things happen that are not always a positive happening to a younger child. The other girls are maturing and your daughter isn't. The other girls are wearing bras and yours isn't. The other kids have their driving liscense and yours doesn't. Immature children really struggle in the higher grades of
school. Studies show that the more mature a child is the better they do in school. Also what's the girl to do at age 16 or 17 when she graduates. That is a very young age to be sending her off to college.

It would be in this child's best interest to have some challenging projects or independent studies as opposed to skipping a grade. Is she acting bored with school? What is mom's motive to advance her??? Does your school have gifted classes she might qualify for? There are many options here besides skipping. Do you have many split classes in your school. It sounds like a 3/4 is a good place for her because she can hear and learn from the 4th curriculium. Is there such a class for next year a 4/5 split?

Hopefully my ramblings here will give you some ideas to give mom but NOT ALONE!
