Hi, Last year when I was student teaching I did an egg unit with my first graders. They loved it. First, if you can get your hands on a copy of the AIMS catalog their is a spring book that has a whole section on eggs, however
if you cannot here are some ideas.
1. SHow the children an egg-then ask them to smell a clear fluid (vinegar) in a clear container. Have them predict what it is and what it will do to the egg. The shell will disinigrage.
2. Create a small grid with squares, they can trace around their egg and count how many squares it is.
They can also measure with string they can

lay agains a ruler to find the circumfrence or length. My kids even knew that we had different answers because sometimes people use different techniques to measure.
3. You can create Fabrige eggs like the ones in Russia, ask parents to donate large plastic eggs and pretend jewels, also puffy paint. Have the kids glue the jewels on.
The story CHICKENS AREN'T THE ONLY ONES is also great. After reading it to the class, have them (on egg shaped paper) draw their favorite animals that lay eggs. They love to write sentences with the word oviporous!!
