How to manage Daily5 in the begining of the year

I understand daily 5 is a management plan for what we call literacy centers. Just not sure when is a good time to start. Monday will be the 5th day of school and my friend has alread taught checking for accuracy and two others. I teach 1st grade and feel we should be focusing on good reading habits. When is a good time to start the daily 5? I feel also the reason why centers becomes loud and unfocused is because you always have a few kids that are still reading level A and have trouble doing the work. What do yo give to the children athat struggle with writing and reading in the begining of the year. What do you have them do for writingwhen many sit and say they have nothing to write about. I understand you can give another mini lesson on the subject but you can't do it everyday with out taking tme away from your ther guided reading groups. Help.
