Have you read any books by Dr. Harry Wong? I am a first year 7th -12th as well in a poverty area, and Dr. Wong's book has helped me tremendously. Also, Ruby Payne has a book out that helps me understand poverty. I'm not sure if these two books will help you like they've helped me, but I turned to research for help. Hope they help you.
