ODD student
By Jennifer

Clip to ScrapBook
As a teacher of special needs students and one of which is ODD and a couple that border ODD, it seems that this student does indeed need to be in a Special Education classroom. Ask about and start the necessary process for
recommending that a student be put into a Special Education classroom. Last year was my first year as a teacher and my ODD student spent lots of time out of the classroom because she would run away and need to be physically restrained. These students need strict behavior plans. The plan needs to include a list of the specific behaviors you want the student to work on as well a specific
rewards for appropriate behaviors. For example, three days with appropriate language= a soda or homework pass of whatever will motivate the student. Ask her what are some privelages she would like to earn. This plan should be in the form of a chart that you fill out hourly or daily. It seems difficult but you need to make sure you are reinforcing positive behaviors- instead of saying a day without bad language say a day with appropriate language so that you are emphasizing positive behaviors.
