Challenging behavior
By SWL

Clip to ScrapBook
I worked with a student last year with very similar issues along with anger management difficulties. I worked along with the guidance counselor to implement a behavior management plan. This was a chart citing behaviors to be improved and rewards offered for a successful day. He loved the computer, so he would work hard to earn points for extra time on the computer. Disciplining was a challenge because he could react very aggressively. I found that speaking to him in a very non- threatening way achieved the best results. I used a quiet, calm voice and and approached him in a positive way without drawing attention from the class. He made a good deal of progress. Don't hesitate to ask for help from your colleagues and administration.
