Second Day?
By Laura

Clip to ScrapBook
You did say that this was the students second day? Have you checked his file yet? Perhaps he has a learning disability that the parent didn't tell you about. Or maybe he thought you were going to record a grade on a test he hadn't had the chance to study for. He could have just been scared of failing, and you've only just meet him. Of course refusing wasn't the best way for him to tell you about his anxieties, but...

I agree with letting the parents know that he had refused to take a test. If his parents want a retest, explain to them that you need to continue with the regular lesson, but you'll be happy to let him retest, he'll just have two sets of spelling words that week. That way the parents feel as if they've won, and so do you.
