Don't let it get to you!
By Casey

Clip to ScrapBook
I had a similar thing happen to me. Just some background: The principal at our school is a lazy, horrible man. He received a threat from our CO that if he didn't shape up, he would be shipped out. Apparently, he is now
wandering about in an attempt to *look* like he's doing something. Well, he has been in my classroom TWICE. And it just so happened that I was in the middle of a discipline lecture both time (one for behavior during a fire drill, which was serious business, and once when I was trying to find out who took confiscated Pokemon Cards from my desk). I got called into the office and was BERATED
because he says I am too hard on the kids and I am ruining their self-esteem. He figures this from the two times he's stepped into my classroom. I liked it a whole lot better last year when I was in my mobile unit...this year I'm in a regular classroom, that just so happen to be on his "coffee run".

Anyway, I went home and cried and cried that night. I felt like a worthless, stupid idiot. But it finally dawned on me that if he can't constructively criticise me about my job and offer feedback like he's supposed to, then he needs to quit worrying about how I do my job and concentrate on doing his. You should feel the same. Take pride in the fact that you are WAY more professional than your principal. If she's going to degrade you, then there's no reason you have to listen to it.

Casey
