Last year, I was a first year teacher too in California. Like most of us in this state, we are required to join BTSA. It's a good concept; however, there are a lot of kinks that need to be worked out. Some I know have had fairly good experiences with the program, however, I know more with a lot of complaints. Some hit it off well with their mentors. My story is not quite like that. My mentor last year was very, very busy. She rarely spent time with me. I felt it was pretty much a waste of time. In your case, you are wise to question whether or not you can trust the person assigned to you. I would exercise caution until she proves herself. You state that she is often too busy for you as well. Given what you have said, I would suggest to you to seek someone else out to help you. Hopefully, this is possible. Unfortunately, I think your situation is somewhat the norm. Again, the program has far to go in terms of improvement. Another Teacher in CA
