The King Who "Rained"
By jl, fourth grade

Clip to ScrapBook
The book The King Who Rained is quite funny and appealed to my fourth graders earlier this month when we studied homophones. In the book there is a line that says, "Daddy told me about a king who reigned for forty years"
and it shows a picture of a king holding an umbrella over his head. After discussing the correct homophone, maybe you could have students write sentences using the incorrect homophone and illustrating its silliness (a king who has rain coming out of him) and then writing the sentence with the correct homophone and illustrating it (a king who reigns over his kingdom. Another sentence said,
"Mommy said her throat is a little horse (hoarse)." Have students illustrate the throat with a little horse in it and then illustrate a sore throat (somehow??).
