end of the day
By SGS

Clip to ScrapBook
Hi there!
I agree with you that the end of the day should end on a good note, and should be calm. First of all, I start early. We dismiss our students at 3:15, and I try to start the end of the day process at 2:55
(or before, on a good day!). I begin by listing assignments on the chalkboard while students write them in their assignment notebooks. I discuss with them what they need to have in their take home folders. I give them time to check, as I check some of the chronic "misplacers." Then I call the students by groups to go to the closets to get their belongings. After a sufficient amount
of time, I insist on silence while I read from our read-aloud. Students must be at their seats at this time. At 3:15, when the buses are called, I insist that all remaining students stay in their seats. I stand at the door to say goodbye to all. This seems to be working. It hasn't always, but I have an exceptionally nice class this year. I really think that having the children in their seats is key, though. Good luck!
