Bathroom break
By CC

Clip to ScrapBook
I was a first year teacher last year in a K-4 school and our principal said in the beginning of the year that 3rd and 4th grade classes would not be allowed to go down to the bathrooms as a whole class. Let me just tell you
though about our building. I teach 4th grade and our school is 3 stories (4th grade is on the top, the bathroom is in the basement) It takes the kids so much time to go down, do what they need to do and get back upstairs that they were constantly missing things in class or I had to repeat instructions 2/3/4 or more times. It was a nightmare last year. This year my school has gone
from k-4 to a 3-6 school, which means we are now one of the "young" grades. I have taken it upon myself to insert a mid morning and afternoon bathroom break for my students in our schedule. It takes the whole class about 15-20 minutes, but it is well worth it. Students know that we ALL go down together, so they don't even ask (unless it's an emergancy) and it seems to save so much time. It is really nice to be able to leave the room for a few minutes and the kids all come back ready to work.
