I teach 4th grade and one of our objectives is that students will be able to read and organize data collected through a three ring Venn diagram. We decide as a class on a question we could pose to our parents that has three choices for the answer (e.g. What do you like on your hamburger?). We make a Venn diagram on a sheet of poster board and write a note to our parents explaining what it is we are doing. The kids take the notes home a couple of days before the event. Afterwards we use the diagram to construct graphs and write narratives interpreting the data we have collected with the help of our parents!
