WTC Tragedy and Kids
By Becky B

Clip to ScrapBook
I run an after school program through the YMCA here in PA. Several days after the attacks, I saw a difference in the way the children were playing with each other. Some children engaged in a game called "Get the president"
or they built two towers and "flew" their plane into the buildings. Because I witnessed these acts, I took the time to sit down with them and asked them if they wanted to talk about anything. Of course no one wanted to say anything to the whole group, but the next day I had three different kids walk up to me and ask if they could talk about it. They asked me questions about it and
I answered as much as I could. The only questions I couldn't answer was "why". I decided to have the children make cards and "thankyou" notes for the firefighters in our section of PA. Even though they didn't have a hand in rescue efforts in D.C. and NY, I wanted them to realize that there are brave men and women who help us. They really enjoyed making the cards. Thought I would share this with you.
