back to school night By Christine

I just got home an hour ago from our curriculum night... I am tired but I feel that it was successful. I started out with a sign in and then they had to find their child's desk by the clues. I had a half sheet of paper, that had "My eyes are ____, My hair is ____, I like to ____ who am I?" There was an eye to color in and a smily face to put hair on. I taped these over their name tags. They did this while I individually introduced myself. I then did a "Morning Message" to demonstrate how we do it..."Dear Mom's and Dads, Good Evening! WElcome to First Grade! I am very happy that you are here today! | | Love, Mrs. Webb. It was finny because I had them put on their "reading fingers" and follow along. But I then had to stop and say... that was an excitment mark, that means you have to read it with excitement, lets start over... it was fun...I went through a little about me, curriculum (tons) I shared their journals (which the children wrote ehem a note in) and then rules/consequences... Then I opened it up to them and their questions. AT the end of the night they filled out the same half "who am I sheet" and we taped it over the nametags again. I moved the kid's desks around and tomorrow they have to find their desk using the clues their parents left them... it was so cute! It went well! GOOD LUCK AND have fun! P.S. I put apples on the desks for them with a poem about apples and parents being teacher's too. If you are interested in the exact wording let me know I have copies still at school. I also had Hersey kisses on the table "To sweeten them up"
