bathroom
By Carolyn

Clip to ScrapBook
Another thing I do when a student asks to use the bathroom is say, "Not right now" meaning that the time isn't right. Chances are, the child will not ask again. He/she will forget all about it until later. I will also say something like "we'll go as a class soon." Most of the time the child will not persist if you don't come right out and say "no" but give a reasonable response that it's not a convenient time and that he/she will have to wait a bit. If that really isn't possible for the child, then just let him/her go, but inform any others who ask that use of the bathroom isn't contagious.

Once the kids know their limits in your classroom, they stop asking. I had a class last year with severe bathroomitis, and I weaned them from it very quickly.
