tattling
By M

Clip to ScrapBook
Dear Michael, Ok- I know what you're talking about. What if you had a "tattle form" students would have to fill out if they had a complaint about another student? They would have to explain the situation, Why they think
it happened in the first place, and what they can do to prevent the offending behavior from happening in the future. All that paperwork just to tattle should stop some tattling.
Another rule I have about tattling- it must be dangerous, destructive, or disturbing in order to tell me verbally and immediately.
Something else that really helped my class was teaching "I" messages. For
instance it's the difference between "Mr. Michaaaaeeeeeellllllll, Johnnnnny's poking meeeeee." (whiney voice) To: "Johnny, I really don't appreciate it when you poke me- it hurts." I know it may sound silly, but when you give the students the language they need in order to stop tattling, they will use it.
I hope I helped. -M
