I do let them . . .

take home classroom books after I give the class a "pep talk" on how important the books will be for next year's students. Then, because I teach 5th grade, I put a laundry basket with my name on it in the middle school office for kids to place the books in after the summer is over. THe system does work well . . . I do lose a few books each year, but try to replace them with the Scholastic free points system and through parent donations at the school book fair.
