I agree with you, EM. You can't yell at these kids. Yelling at this type of student makes them aggressively angry and seems to reinforce the type of behavior they may experience at home. We are role models and don't want to model anger, aggression, and hostility.

I like Cathy-Dee's idea of making three lists. There are some things which just take priority over others. Concentrate on what you really need to work on to make these kids successful and what, in the big picture, won't hurt their learning.
