Tactile approaches
By Barb

Clip to ScrapBook
Hi there,

There are a lot of tactile ways you can reinforce spelling practice. Here are a few ideas I use:

-write/trace their words in shaving cream (just spray some on their desk, smooth it out and use their finger to
write...it cleans the desks too!)
-You can also do this same idea with sand.
-have the kids "write: the words in glue, then sprinkly on sand, glitter, rice, beans, kool-ade, jello, etc to see the words.
-use wikki-stix to form the letters and practice
-take a bumpy surface (sand paper, cement, etc), lay a piece of paper over it and use crayons to make rubbings. Have them write
the words as they rub the crayon over teh surface.
-Make puzzle words...write the words on tagboard or note cards and then cut them apart and make it a center activity to put the words together.
-use sidewalk chalk and practice the words on teh board or outside

the kids love these kinds of ways to practice! Have fun!
