I am a first year, first grade teacher also. I know when I was getting my room ready, I was told by my mentor that I could be hear everyday for the next year and still have things to do to get my room ready. There has to be a time when you just stop and clean up and get ready for the students. Also as far as homework goes. I give out a daily oral language spelling list (five words from our word wall) and they have to study that all week. Thye also have to take their reading book home every night to read. That is the homework I give out. Hope that helps,
