Let the kids know
By CD

Clip to ScrapBook
I let the kids know at the beginning of the year that not all papers will be formally graded but they will be checked. I had discovered that whether I graded 20 asignments or 50 assignments, the student's average was about
the same and I was exhausted from correcting papers (more than I was lesson planning!) I do not tell them which ones get an official grade as there were times when students didn't put in much effort because they thought it would receive a check for completion. I still do a lot of correcting but it has helped to cut down on the "volume" of work I bring home at night.

I hope I do not

offend anyone but I do not know a teacher that doesn't bring work home some of the time. If you aren't bringing it home, you're staying late or coming in early. I wonder about anyone who gets it all done in the course of an 8 hour school day!?
