saxon math By srw

Some of the teachers in my system use Saxon math. I used it last year (this year I moved to Special Ed.) and it worked well with most of my kiddos. It is a completely scripted program and is continuously cumulative (i.e.| there are still problems from Lesson 1 in the problem set for Lesson 102). The only thing that I dislike about the program is the way it skips around. For example, on day we were doing decimals and the next it introduced probability. Two days later there was another lesson on decimals. The program (for 5th grade, I know it changes with the grade) included daily timed tests (addition, | | subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, etc) daily mental math and problem solving, and a problem set of 25 problems. Typically there is a test after every 5th lesson. Some of my higher achieving math students needed more in the beginning of the year (because it was a review), but by the end they were challenged too. Saxon is extremely teacher friendly. Little to no preparation (other than coping). However, it might not work for you kiddos. (again, I have mixed emotions about it). Hope this helps. If not, I will try to answer any questions you have. You may also want to visit their website at www1.saxonpub.com
