been there, done that!

Clip to ScrapBook
I had a Chinese student a few years ago and I was in your place! He had an ESL teacher that came several times a week. I didn't have a computer in my classroom then but do now. I know there are some sites that you can
translate words. Babblefish.com is a good one but I don't know about having Chinese on there. Surely there is a site out there!
I did take this opportunity to incorporate China and Chinese customs into Social Studies. I did a unit during Chinese New Year. This helped him to feel good about himself to help teach the children to write and speak some in Chinese. I had a lot of books
that I shared about this, as well.
You might try putting labels on things and have a student work as a study buddy to help him learn basic words. You could also get a picture dictionary. The ESL teacher was a life saver as she worked with him on his actual classwork.
These are only a few suggestions. Hope they have helped some!
