I used to feel the same way as you do, but I realize that teachers are just venting. From students to administration, face it, sometimes neither one can be perfect. I myself can be frustrated with my own students and have found myself venting at lunch. But, it is not because I love them any less or would want them not to succeed -- it is just the opposite. I really have high expectations for my students, and they are great kids, but the day it takes them 10 minutes to get the room ready before lunch, I might whine about that. Then, we might compare notes at recess. If everyone else is taking that long to line up, well, then, I don't feel so bad.

Also, as a mom, I have complained about my kid (not picking up his room, leaving his homework at school, etc. but I still love him).

I would not think less of the teachers, usually, that 20-30 minute lunch time is their only contact with another adult or colleague.
