I have a poster board that has been divided into different sections (hot lunch, lunch box, absent, potato, salad, lunch muncher). Each child has a clothespin with their name on it. Every morning the students move their clothespin from absent to their choice. My designated lunch count person counts the pins for me. I teach 2nd and this works really well! Hope that this helps.
